I have a necromancer, the thing I noticed about necromancers is that generally you don't hit for much damage but your hexes and curses do a lot of the work for you. I don't think combining a Necromancer with a Mesmer was a grand idea, but i'm not doing too bad.

I think you should utilize your multiple character slots to try out different professions in order to play the roles you want. I like Warrior, and I play that the most.
Dervishes wear robes, not skirts. Males have worn robes for thousands of years and continue to do so in many parts of the world. Try walking around in the desert in jeans for an hour or so. Now male paragons definitely wear skirts, but so did soldiers in the Roman legion. edit: I guess you could classify Dervish armor either way, or both.
